Gerda and Kay grew up together. Nothing can destroy their friendship. Gerda's grandmother tells them the story of the legendary Snow Queen: she is the ruler of all snowflakes. She is rich, beautiful, freezing cold and her kiss can turn the warmest hearts to ice.
The Snow Queen actually appears in Gerda and Kay's apartment and gives Kay a kiss. With an icy heart, Kay can only see the bad things in the world. He follows the Snow Queen to her castle and leaves Gerda and her grandmother alone. But Gerda does not give up and sets off to find her friend again. In the process, she experiences numerous adventures and makes new friends: with a prince and a princess, with a raven, a reindeer and a child robber. And Gerda can use all the help she can get - because the sinister Council of Commerce, an ally of the Snow Queen, is doing everything he can to thwart her journey. Can Gerda succeed in getting Kay back?
The Snow Queen is one of the most popular fairy tales by the Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen. Russian playwright Yevgeny Schwarz tells the timeless story as an appeal to the boundless power of imagination and friendship, which fills even the iciest world with warmth and love.
