The panel discussion with Prof. Dr. Heike Paul (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg) and Prof. Dr. Volker Depkat (Universität Regensburg) sheds light on the upcoming election - and its consequences - and places the event in a historical context that goes beyond current issues. A look at history shows the continuing relevance of American myths surrounding the founding of the USA, past conflicts such as the Civil War and American democracy as such. What meanings are currently attached to them? How has the political and cultural self-image changed? What common ground do Americans have in the face of "culture wars" and polarization?

This event is part of the Amerikahaus theme week on the 2024 US elections.
