Die Verteidigung des Paradieses

Enter a multimedia theater course! Based on Thomas von Steinaecker's science fiction novel, which was nominated for the German Book Prize, director Gernot Grünewald, together with set designer Michael Köpke and video artist Thomas Taube, is developing a comprehensive theater experience between drama, installation and video art.

After the end of the world, young Heinz is one of the last people still living on a mountain pasture in Berchtesgadener Land. Since a climate catastrophe, people in Germany can only live in a few areas, protected by huge shields. Heinz tries to collect as much of the lost culture as possible and write a kind of history of the last people. When the protective shield over their alpine pasture is also destroyed, Heinz and a small group of survivors suddenly become fugitives. They set off on an apocalyptic road trip through a destroyed Bavaria.

Gernot Grünewald and his versatile team of artists work with extraordinary visual power and combine acting with video art. With "Die Verteidigung des Paradieses" (The Defense of Paradise), he brings a post-disaster world to life and lets the audience slip into the mind of the protagonist Heinz.

The theater course is divided into several stations. You can choose between four different starting times for each performance and are then guided from station to station. Make sure you arrive at the foyer of the Therese-Giehse-Halle at the time you have booked. The duration of the entire course is approx. 2 hours 15 minutes. The course is also wheelchair-accessible, but other routes are used and accompanied insome places. Sensory information: Parts of the course are located in narrow and dark rooms. Fog and rapid light changes are used. Various technical aids such as headphones and VR glasses are used. It is possible to stop or skip individual stations on the course at any time. Each station is supervised.
