As a teenager, Marie Jacquot was well on her way to becoming a professional tennis player. But then she decided to pursue music, studying trombone and conducting. The designated chief conductor of the Royal Danish Opera still benefits from her experiences as a competitive athlete today. Norwegian composer Kristine Tjøgersen takes us on a sound excursion into the forest with her atmospheric orchestral piece "Between Trees". Sibelius initially planned a naturalistic program in an early draft of his first symphony, but then rejected all programmatic ideas. Sibelius' symphonic debut thus became a transitional work between program music and absolute music. In the middle of this Scandinavian bracket is Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, which with its dreamy middle movement already points ahead to the Romantic period. The soloist is Rudolf Buchbinder, described by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as one of the "most important and competent Beethoven players of our time".
