By Rocko Schamoni - stage version by Dominik Günther - 14+
"Yesterday we were shit, today we're a band." Growing up as a teenager in the country is like a war on many fronts. The blessings of puberty are compounded by agonizing boredom, unreliable transport and nosy neighbors. The cultural offerings and opportunities to go out are lousy and the big city lies in the unreachable distance: a "total dance of death". And yet: perhaps this is also a great privilege? The backwater as an opportunity? No cool role models far and wide, nothing is given to you, you have to create your own identity. Just like Rocko Schamoni, who decided in his youth to become a punk and make music: Misunderstood by his teacher parents, he loafs around with his clique, literally fights with village idiots and Bundeswehr soldiers, has extremely awkward sex - and learns everything you need to know about life.
"Funnier than allowed in this country and more serious than desired in this country", was once said about Schamoni's memories of being a boy in the provinces - between lovesickness and confirmation classes, mopeds and beer, cows and boredom -, of music and the life-changing power of: Punk!
