Siegfried Lenz was undisputedly one of the most successful German writers of the 20th and early 21st centuries.
His work encompasses practically all literary genres from short stories, novellas, radio plays and theater history to his great and magnificent novels.
"Deutschstunde" (1968) is certainly his best-known work, but in his own time he became equally famous for the short story collection "So zärtlich war Suleyken" (1955), the novel "Heimatmuseum" (1978) and numerous works for radio.
The 10th anniversary of Siegfried Lenz's death on October 7, 2024 and his 100th birthday on March 17, 2026 are our occasion to pay tribute to this great writer and honorary citizen of Hamburg with his oeuvre.
His work is so comprehensive and memorable that we would like to trace his literary genius over the entire one and a half year period that connects these two occasions.
A culmination on the occasion of his 100th birthday in 2026 is obvious, but is not enough for us as a theater with the possibilities that his work offers.
Our aim is to use the possibilities as theater makers to bring not only representatives of his plays to the stage, but also two novel adaptations. In addition, his versatile contributions to the other genres mentioned above will be included in our LENZ AUF DIE BÜHNE retrospective, which will comprise more than 90 events.
Our third matinee will be humorous! Our guests Catrin Striebeck, Stephan Kampwirth and Bjarne Mädel will be reading.
Jonas Landerschier will provide musical accompaniment on the piano. Günter Berg will host this entertaining morning.
