Eddie Carbone, an Italian-American dock worker, lives in New York with his wife Beatrice and his niece Catherine. When Rodolpho and Marco, two Sicilian relatives, immigrate illegally, Eddie has no choice but to hide them in his home. But when Catherine and Rodolpho fall in love, the family's willingness to help turns into open hostility. Eddie, who secretly harbors romantic feelings for Catherine, is plagued by wild jealousy, which ultimately drives him to extremes.

Arthur Miller's gripping family drama tells of the confrontation with one's own identity and the absurdity of how much a passport determines a person's life - and is thus frighteningly close to our present day.
