"Eine Uni, ein Buch" - Lesung mit Dimitrij Kapitelman

Literary studies live: Ukrainian author Dimitrij Kapitelman reads from his 2021 novel 'A Formality in Kiev'.

"A Formality in Kiev" is the poignant story of a family that once moved to a foreign country full of hope to start a new life, and is now faced with a bunch of cats and a mysterious illness. Told with the bittersweet humor of a son who stoically tries to become German.

Dmitrij Kapitelman, born in Kiev in 1986, came to Germany with his family as a "contingent refugee" at the age of eight. He studied in Leipzig and graduated from the German School of Journalism in Munich. Today, he works as a freelance journalist for Zeit magazine, among others. His first, successful book 'The Smile of My Invisible Father' was published in 2016. 'A Formality in Kiev' (2021) is his second novel.

The reading by Dimitrij Kapitelman marks the end of the 'One University, One Book' event series curated by Dr. Mareike Gronich and Prof. Dr. Claudia Hillebrandt. The idea behind it: As many members of a university as possible exchange ideas with civil society on a common topic or concern. The series of events is organized by the Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies at Bielefeld University.
