"I've never tried that before, so I'm absolutely sure I can do it." (Pippi Longstocking) - 12-year-old Emil Tischbein is traveling to Berlin alone. He has 380 euros in his pocket for his relatives in the capital - precisely counted and saved for a long time. But he is unlucky. All his money is stolen on the train. Once he arrives in the big, strange city, Emil decides to pursue the thief and gets some unexpected help. On the streets of Berlin, he meets the gang of children around Pony Hütchen, Little Tuesday, the Professor and Krummbiegel, who help him to put a stop to the crook. Erich Kästner's "novel for children" from 1929 tells the story of a boy from a poor background who bravely stands up to a criminal adult in a foreign city and finds like-minded people and new friends in the process. In her production, director Nina Mattenklotz shows how children organize themselves creatively and are strong together.
