USA 1985: Under the administration of Republican Ronald Reagan, neo-liberalism characterizes the country, and more and more cases of a mysterious disease that ends fatally become apparent. The AIDS epidemic takes on devastating proportions.
In New York, Louis leaves his partner Prior because he cannot bear his partner's suffering from AIDS. The marriage between the Mormons Joe and Harper breaks up because Joe is homosexual and has to struggle with the strict prohibitions of his religion and internalized homophobia. The corrupt, racist lawyer Roy Cohn claims to be suffering from liver cancer, when in fact he also has AIDS. He sees the virus as the disease of the powerless. And Prior is visited in his death throes by an angel who brings him a message ...
Tony Kushner's award-winning play ANGEL IN AMERICA paints a multi-layered social panorama.
