In the organizer's words:

Three current patients of the Herisau sanatorium, ardent admirers and connoisseurs of former patient no. 3561 Robert Walser, are celebrating a memorial service in his honor. Invited are companions and fellow writers of the time who appreciated his works. All deceased, of course. Not for our three residents, of course. With her musical and linguistic mastery full of surreal, comedic and poetic images, Elfriede Jelinek attempts to understand the absurdity of Robert Walser's life as an artist. In the process, she also discovers parallels to her own fate as a writer.
