Exile never ends

In the organizer's words:

One-off special screening as part of the Hessian Documentary Film Festival in the presence of director Bahar Bektas, followed by a film discussion.

Bahar's brother Taner is in prison in Germany and is about to be deported to Turkey. Bahar uses the time spent waiting for her brother's deportation to focus the camera on her family members. In calm and sensitive images, she explores the family's emotional and geographical worlds of uprooting and new beginnings between Germany and Turkey. In conversations with her parents Yildiz (64) and Mustafa (65) and her brothers Taner and Onur (30), she embarks on a painful journey into the past. Political persecution of the Alevi-Kurdish family in Turkey, the flight to Europe in 1989, racist attacks, depression and excessive demands on the parents - all of this affected the children, who deal with it in different ways. The uncertainty about Taner's fate in Turkey is just a reflection of their life experience as a family in exile. The distortion of past and present as well as different geographies confronts the viewer with one of the characteristics of exile, namely the loss of orientation in time and space.
