EXKURSION | Neozoen und Neophyten auf der Spur

There is currently a themed exhibition on newly immigrated animal species at the Natural History Museum. On the occasion of this exhibition, we invite you to an encounter with these newcomers in the Urdenbacher Kämpe. The newcomers, which include Canada geese, Nile geese and ruddy shelducks, can be observed very well there. Knotweed, dogwood and balsam are also spreading in many places. All of these newcomers, also known as neozoa and neophytes, were brought to Germany by humans. Many were deliberately introduced, such as the nutria, muskrat and raccoon dog. The phenomenon of newcomers is still highly topical. Over 1,000 alien species have been registered across the country in recent decades, 250 of which have long since become native.
