SAVE THE DATE: The next f² Fotofestival will take place from June 12 to 15, 2025!
One theme, a wide variety of exhibitions and lots of program! In 2025, the f² Fotofestival will offer a platform for the exchange of ideas between a wide variety of players for the fifth time. Established photographers, up-and-coming young talent, educational institutions, museums and cultural venues - they all share a passion for photography and an interest in this year's festival theme of chaos:
For many, the feeling of losing control and being overwhelmed is more omnipresent than ever, whether in terms of the growing dangers posed by global political tensions, the climate crisis and its effects or mental illness, especially among young people during and after the corona pandemic. The more chaos is perceived in various areas of life or world events, the greater the need for structured living conditions. This tendency is evident both in the direct experience of chaotic conditions and in observing them.
Chaos is generally seen as an absence of order, as an unpredictable force that causes confusion and even destruction and manifests itself in various forms. Ultimately, chaos is always a challenge, whether on an individual or global level. However, chaos is not only the absence of structure, but also the source of infinite possibilities and transformations.
Political unrest and social upheaval can cause existing structures and norms to collapse, but also provide opportunities for new social orders. Forces of nature and environmental disasters destroy existing ecosystems, but also create space for new ways of life and developments. Emotional and individual crises are overwhelming and stressful, but at the same time they also offer opportunities for personal development.
In view of the multi-layered dynamics, however, a deeper question arises: what is chaos beyond the usual duality of destruction and renewal?
In order to explore this and other questions, photography as a creative medium and tool offers the opportunity to initiate a visual examination of the topic of chaos by making the multifaceted and contradictory aspects of chaotic states visible and opening up new ways of interpretation.
How is chaos experienced and evaluated by different cultures and societies? What role does chaos play in creative and artistic practice? Where does chaos begin and where does it end?
Further information on the program will follow.
