Fabian Müller: Bagatelles (world premieres)

Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Sonatas No. 9, No. 4, No. 22 & No. 32

Fabian Müller is making a name for himself - this year, the high-flyer from Bonn is taking on the Mount Everest of the piano, Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas. He will perform the first half of the cycle in four concerts at the Beethovenfest Bonn 2024, with the second half to follow at the 2025 festival. The undertaking is like an accolade, because in addition to the concerts at the Beethovenfest, he has been invited by his mentor Daniel Barenboim to perform the complete piano sonatas at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin. Fabian Müller not only finds his own approach to Beethoven's cosmos, but also responds as a composer to the multifaceted music: he precedes each sonata with a bagatelle that comments on it, introduces it, brushes it against the grain.

In the third round of the sonata cycle, Fabian Müller plays at the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, where the composer grew up - a moving experience for both pianist and audience. Between the lyrical early works of the fourth and ninth piano sonatas and the last piano sonata No. 32 with its philosophical dimensions, the astonishing range of expression in Beethoven's piano music can once again be experienced.
