Dear cineastes, the time has come!

Strange time travel, sleep anomalies, rectum-fixated aliens, metamorphoses between humans and matter, a serum that promises eternal youth: crazy themes have come together again. Horror is guaranteed. We open the festival with James Watkins' disturbing SPEAK NO EVIL and James McAvoy's award-winning performance. After that, everything from splatter to bloody revenge epics to body horror is on offer. The 38th Fantasy is a tough edition! But there are also enchantingly poetic stories - like ELSE, which we are showing one day after the world premiere in Toronto. This year's program is just as highly topical with ESCAPE FROM THE 21st CENTURY (also direct from Toronto), the European premiere of the Director's Spotlight PÁRVULOS and one of the most anticipated films of the season, our furious closing film TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN.

In addition, clever thrillers are on trend with STRANGE DARLING, THE WASP and A PLACE CALLED SILENCE. Just like many strong women, for example in SAYARA or MERMAID LEGEND, our little excursion into the Japanese exploitation cinema of the 1980s. Samara Weaving in AZRAEL and Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley in THE SUBSTANCE demonstrate impressive fighting spirit. There is also a new competition to discover. "Seven festival cities - seven jury members - seven films" is the motto. We are excited to see which title our first jury will honor with the FEAR GOOD AWARD! Last but not least, we can proudly announce a new record: 15 directors have already been represented at the festival with their previous films, including Fabrice du Welz, who is this year's centerpiece with his dark true-crime thriller MALDOROR.
