Special screening in cooperation with Medico International in the presence of director Yalda Afsah, followed by a film discussion

The documentary accompanies the Afghan teenager Farahnaz on her search for her identity in Germany. Farahnaz was brought up as a boy according to the Afghan Bacha Posh tradition. Bacha Posh is a practice that allows families without sons to raise one of their daughters as a boy until puberty, thus fulfilling the required role in the patriarchal system as well as in the family context. Filmmakers Yalda Afsah and Ginan Seidl first met Farahnaz in Afghanistan in 2013. They made the documentary BOY. In FARAHb, the filmmakers accompany Farahnaz through her everyday life as a teenager and young adult in Halle (Saale), Germany. The screening will be followed by a moderated film discussion on the topic.
