DIE FARBEN DES BLEIBENS

In the organizer's words:

The recruitment of female migrant workers was a central component of German recruitment policy as part of the German-Moroccan recruitment agreement. 60 years after the signing of the agreement, filmmakers Ráhel Eckstein-Kovács, Kristina Bublevskaya and Fatima Remli embark on a journey to document the female perspective.

It is about the visibility of stories that have their place in the Moroccan-German diaspora but remain under the radar. The female perspective is historically necessary and important, as it allows for a more comprehensive and balanced view of the past, thereby losing its invisibility today. The film "The Colors of Staying" focuses on the stories of Moroccan women workers who came to Germany in the 1970s. They bring emancipation, courage and strength with them. They leave their homeland and their identity behind. A feminist movement emerges in different generations, which shapes their own children today.

The film screening (45 min) will be followed by a panel discussion.

About the filmmakers:

Kristina Bublevskaya is an interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker. In her art, she uses a documentary approach to tell stories about topics such as migration, realities of life and identity(ies). She is also active in political education and co-founded the activist group Palestinians and Jews for Peace.

Ráhel Eckstein-Kovács works mainly with documentaries, feature films and video. She searches for meaning in everyday things, observes unexpected parallels and focuses on the past in order to understand the present.
Both are currently studying at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.

Fatima Remli works as a freelance author, presenter, podcaster and human rights activist. She is active in the fields of refugees, decolonized feminism and the visibility of the Maghrebi diaspora and is politically active in the Social Affairs and Senior Citizens Committee of the City of Cologne. She also publishes texts that she describes as "political poetry".
