Farbrausch Werke aus der Sammlung Kemp

Color has always been an essential component of art. In the middle of the 20th century, painters placed it at the center of their work in a new way and elevated it to a pictorial motif in its own right. The exhibition Farbrausch illustrates this development with over 80 paintings and prints by American and European color field painters such as Gene Davis, Frank Stella, Winfred Gaul and Barbara Herbert.
The selection of works ranges from the first tendencies at the beginning of the 20th century to the peak phase in the 1960s to current positions that approach the subject. The show, compiled from the Kemp Collection and supplemented by works from the Kunstpalast collection, provides a comprehensive view of the diversity of color field painting and makes Willi Kemp's preference for this art movement comprehensible.
