DOCUMENTARY FILM With great sensitivity, the film accompanies an actress who is thrust back into the traumas suffered by many Korean women during the Japanese occupation in the Second World War. Melanie, a young Argentinian-Korean actress, is thrown into crisis when she is offered the opportunity to perform the testimony of a "comfort woman" - one of the women who were used as sex slaves by the Japanese army during the Second World War and are still ignored by society today. Melanie prepares for the monologue with intensive research and at the same time tries to cope with her daily life. But the more she learns about the traditions of her people and her own family history, the more she realizes how many traumas live on inside her.

CECILIA KANG (*1985 in Argentina) is a filmmaker. Her medium-length documentary Mi último fracaso (2016) screened in competition at the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival. A Boat Departed From Me Taking Me Away is her first feature-length documentary.
