FILMFEST HAMBURG zeigt Fragments of Ice

Come to FILMFEST HAMBURG and experience Ukrainian filmmaking

DOKUMENTARTFILM The film uses private VHS recordings (1986-1994) and shows the personal and political changes in Ukraine. Maria Stoianova's father, a figure skater in the USSR, documented tours abroad and family life. As the Soviet Union collapses, Ukraine strives for independence. However, the glamorous expectations of the West stand in stark contrast to the family's ramshackle home.

MARIA STOIANOVA (*1986 in Ukraine) studied cultural studies, sociology and social anthropology. She completed her studies at the Sergey Bukovsky Film Program in 2018. Fragments of Ice is her feature film debut.

FILMFEST HAMBURG takes place from September 26 to October 5, 2024. Over 120 productions from all over the world will be shown as world, European, German or Hamburg premieres.
