True to Jim Jarmusch's statement that he would rather make a movie about someone walking his dog than about the Emperor of China, Markus John plays three people from Cologne: the cab driver Foxi, the museum attendant Jussuf and Edeltraud, the widow of a successful manager. These are not fictional characters, the three really exist, they live among us. He has discovered their life stories in personal conversations and brings them to the stage unfiltered, without smoothing or additions. This shows how complex the lives of the individuals are: it's about positive genes, Picasso and pimping, the GDR, dementia and being gay, about integration and prison and cancer and Krupp, boxing shacks, illegitimate children, fights, Stalingrad, the provinces and openness. This warm-hearted solo about the power of listening manages without a large stage set and with a minimum of costumes, which is precisely what makes it so haunting - a respectful bow to the "people from next door" and the humor with which they master their fate.

FOXI, JUSSUF, EDELTRAUD ran at the Schauspielhaus Cologne in the 2012/13 season and was then transferred to the Schauspielhaus Hamburg, where Markus John is a member of the ensemble. Following the great success of the guest performance as part of the Cologne, Minnesota festival at the opening of the 2016/17 season, the evening can now be seen regularly at the Bauturm and thus once again has a permanent place in the city that is its breeding ground.
