Director Maria Stoianova's father, a figure skater from the former world-famous Ukrainian "Ballet on Ice", toured abroad and filmed his life during the period of perestroika. Now Maria opens his amateur archive to see the Western utopia through the eyes of "a late Soviet man" and to start a personal dialog with him. 15 videotapes, 1986-1994. Travels and hobbies, the birth of a daughter, the collapse of the Soviet Union. The end of a career. The collapse of utopias. FRAGMENTS OF ICE is a journey to the coming of age of a society, a father and a daughter. A journey that is not yet complete.
