In the organizer's words:
"The highest goal of architecture is the creation of a paradise" - and so the jury of the ideas competition for the construction of a new opera house certified Alvar Aalto's design "great originality and beauty" back in 1959. Opened in 1988, over 30 years ago, the Aalto Theater has lost none of its fascination to this day and its architect is considered one of the "most important international architects of organic modernism".
As part of the two-hour tour, participants are not only familiarized with Aalto's "humane architecture", but are also given an exclusive look behind the scenes and are initiated into the secrets of everyday theater life. In places that remain hidden from the audience during regular theater visits, such as the workshops, the rehearsal stage or the scenery storage, you can look forward to a wealth of information and anecdotes about the events of a theater evening and learn why an elevator is needed that can even accommodate a truck, what the job of the stage manager is all about and what everyday rehearsals at the Aalto Theater look like.
