Interzone Perceptible set Georg Wilhelm Pabst's silent film to music live and with their own compositions.

InterZone Perceptible have been making silent film music for 25 years. With electrified accordion, electric bass and live electronics, the two musicians Sven Hermann and Matthias Hettmer, who studied at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen, bring early silent films into the 21st century. They are internationally active and have played in South Korea, Finland and the USA at the invitation of the Goethe Institute. InterZone Perceptible's INDUSTRIAL SOUNDART does not attempt to illustrate external film events, but rather the inner worlds of the film characters, allowing the film to be experienced in a completely new way. The whole thing is supported by meticulous sound design that creates the illusion that all sounds come directly from the screen.

InterZone Perceptible will be back at Szene 10 in Essen on 18.05.2025 at 19:30. The film GEHEIMNISSE EINER SEELE by Georg Wilhelm Pabst from 1926 with live music DRUCKKAMMER from the years 2009-15 is on the program. The protagonist of the film is Martin Fellmann, who, plagued by anxiety, visits a psychotherapist. Piece by piece, his subconscious is fanned out and his torments take on a pictorial form. It is clear that a Freudian psychoanalysis lesson in film form is probably not a medically appropriate form of presentation. But that is not the point here, the idea of psychoanalysis is merely a catalyst of inspiration for wonderful images. The film penetrates Fellmann's head, with bizarre images projecting his innermost fears onto the screen. InterZone Perceptible clings to this "inside", crawling musically into his head and removing layer after layer to finally reach the sensitive subconscious, that small space deep inside. The physical pressure in the body, the acoustic proximity to the functional sounds of the body give birth to dull, stuffed timbres, which take the listener on Fellmann's journey of dream images, as if one were looking into one's own doom. This is somewhat reminiscent of David Lynch, but also of the body horror of David Cronenberg.

Music for electrified accordion, electric bass, live electronics, keyboards, playback.
