"Judas Maccabaeus", Handel's timeless masterpiece and perhaps his most underrated, tells of violence, threat and war, of liberation and victory. This oratorio offers powerful architecture and grandeur, musical verve and rousing passion, but also solemn devotion, silence, introspection and ceremonial dignity. With "O lovely peace", it is a powerful reminder of the inestimable value of peace and freedom.
