Opulent floral still lifes meet exquisite drinking and ceremonial glasses. Franz Hals' Laughing Boy toasts Jan Steen's Lovesick Woman and next to Fabritius' Gate Guard, the goddess of fortune Fortuna braces herself against the storms of life. - Experience an exclusive selection of 70 outstanding works from the renowned Schwerin collection.
During the construction-related closure period, the State Museum is presenting the exhibition Highlights in Dialogue at Schwerin Castle. Well-known paintings from the world-renowned collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings from the 16th to 18th centuries enter into a dialog with exquisite objects from the rich treasures of the decorative arts and the coin cabinet.
The exclusive presentation extends across the former children's rooms in Schwerin Castle, which create an intimate atmosphere and allow for intensive viewing of the often small-format works and a wide range of discoveries. The thematically arranged rooms on facets of human life such as happiness, religiosity, everyday life, global trade and nature allow visitors to discover the diversity of the works as well as their different layers of meaning and contexts. A media installation by Hamburg projection artist Katrin Bethge links the works on display with contemporary artistic creation.
The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to experience some of the most beautiful works in the state capital even while the State Museum is closed for refurbishment. At the same time, it provides a curiosity-inducing preview of the museum's reopening.
