Largely unnoticed by the public, Hildegard Heerich (1928 - 2023) developed an independent artistic oeuvre alongside her husband, the artist and academy professor Erwin Heerich (1922 - 2004), which can still be discovered today. Starting with early collaborations in which she translated Erwin Heerich's drawings into idiosyncratic fabric paintings, she increasingly emancipated herself from him with her abstract textile collages and found her own self-confident visual language. What both artists have in common, however, is that in their work and experience they always kept a finely balanced space open between figuration, abstraction and architectural references, in which seeing can constantly realign itself. Based on two important donations to the Insel Hombroich Foundation from the Onnasch Collection in Berlin and the Düsseldorf family estate, this exhibition presents for the first time a dialog between the works of Hildegard and Erwin Heerich in the context of the immense Hombroich estate.
