Grundlos glücklich? Bodenpolitische Perspektiven 2025+

In the organizer's words:
Happy for no reason? Land policy perspectives 2025+
On Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 7:30 pm, Köln leben & gestalten (Klug) e.V., Köln kann auch anders and Stadtraum 5und4 e.V. in cooperation with the Katholisches Bildungswerk Köln invite you to a discussion at the Domforum.
With a view to the 2025 local elections, we are organizing a panel discussion with representatives of Cologne politics on land policy oriented towards the common good. Whether affordable housing, cultural and social uses or small, consumer-oriented businesses: everything needs a sustainable municipal land policy; the price spiral that has been driving prices for years is comprehensively preventing such uses.
Michael Frenzel (SPD), Niklas Kienitz (CDU) and Hans Schwanitz (Greens) have agreed to participate. We have also invited the responsible department heads to contribute their perspectives, particularly on the implementation requirements.
As an introduction, Ulrich Kriese (spokesman for building and settlement policy of the nature conservation association NABU, co-founder of the reform initiative "Grundsteuer: Zeitgemäß!" and member of the management board of the Edith Maryon Foundation and the board of trustees of the trias Foundation) will introduce the topic and highlight examples of good practice.
An active municipal land policy is a prerequisite for urban development oriented towards the common good. Without land in public hands, it will be difficult. Mülheim Süd and Ehrenfeld, for example, are examples of where things are headed if the city relies unilaterally on private real estate companies. Years of private-sector exploitation have led to an exponential increase in the price of land, some of which once even belonged to the city - land that has largely remained sand deserts and building pits for years, or on which mostly unaffordable housing is being built, but not a sustainable city.
What answers do politicians have to this challenge? How should things be different in the future? And what can the administration do to implement political goals?
We look forward to seeing you there in large numbers.
Participation is free of charge.
