Freely adapted from William Shakespeare
By and with Simon Mazouri | Directed by Anja Schoenwald
"Who there? - Who there?" This question begins what is probably the most famous work of all time, which today seems more topical than ever. It is also the core question of this evening of theater: "Which self are we actually and how should we act in this world?" Hamlet is one of the most complex characters in world literature. He is a philosopher, friend, aggrieved son, actor, tragic hero and cold-blooded murderer. This evening of theater traces these different facets of Hamlet's character, his 'personality variations' so to speak.
With his drums and a whole range of other instruments (bass, xylophone, santour, and a few more), actor and musician Simon Mazouri explores the fusion of music and drama in a new way based on the famous Hamlet monologues. The instruments are Hamlet's counterparts, partners and means of expression at the same time. They become the pulse that drives Hamlet, an attempt to break out of convention and a subtle play with madness, sometimes light and dancing, sometimes philosophically heavy. You've never seen Shakespeare like this before!
