A French petty criminal comes into contact with the Corsican mafia in prison and learns the rules of organized crime. The microcosm of the prison reflects the (power) relations outside like a magnifying glass. Without much dialogue or explanations of the background, the physical presence of the actors, their gestures and a concise staging of the space masterfully create a criminal "bildungsroman", whereby the development of the main character reflects the decline of "classic" gangsterism and the emergence of a new type of gangster who is alien to old affiliations and ideological roots.
