The Von Parish Costume Library is located in a villa not far from Nymphenburg Palace, which was built in 1900 / 1901 for the composer Friedrich Wilhelm von Schirach. It was planned and furnished by the well-known Munich construction company Gebrüder Rank. The building was acquired by the von Parish family in 1916 and they moved into it in 1936 with their large collection of costume paintings. The Von Parish Costume Library has been part of the Munich City Museum since 1970. Due to the fact that it has only changed hands twice, the interior of the listed building has almost completely preserved the spatial art of the Rank brothers. It was brought back to life under many layers of paint during the refurbishment of the interior from 2019 to 2021. The historicist furnishings - heirlooms of the von Parish family from the 18th and 19th centuries - form an impressive symbiosis with the Art Nouveau style of the interiors. During the tour, you can gain an impression of the historic living rooms on the first floor and learn more about the history of the house, the founding family and the collection.
