HSO in der Isarphilharmonie

In the organizer's words:

The HSO Munich, the university symphony orchestra of the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts, will play HP8 on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 19:00 in the Isarphilharmonie in the Gasteig. The program includes "Daphnis et Chloé" (Suite No. 2) and "La Valse" by Maurice Ravel. The program will be complemented by Ernest Chausson's "Le Poème de l'amour et de la mer" for (mezzo) soprano and orchestra and Lili Boulanger's "D'un matin de printemps".

The soloists are Laura Hilden (class KS Prof. Christiane Iven) and Katja Maderer (class Prof. Lars Woldt). The concert will be conducted by Giuseppe Montesano, who works closely with Prof. Marcus Bosch, Artistic Director of the HSO Munich, as artistic associate for orchestral conducting at the HMTM.

About the program:
The concert program focuses on the timbres of French Romanticism and Impressionism: in "La Valse", Ravel breaks up the three-four time with rhythmic shifts and accents, which makes the music seem simultaneously orderly and chaotic and echoes the disintegration of the Viennese waltz. In "Daphnis et Chloé", Ravel creates an impressive variety of timbres in an artful combination. Chausson's and Boulanger's works add emotional and stylistic depth to Ravel's sound worlds: in his "Poème", Chausson creates the romantic intensity of an almost bygone era, while Boulanger looks to the modern age with lyrical expressiveness.

About the HSO Munich:
The HSO Munich is made up of HMTM students who want to become orchestral musicians. Since the beginning of the 2017/18 winter semester, the HSO Munich has been led by Prof. Marcus Bosch. By working on several programs per academic year through the various musical eras, students gain extensive experience in orchestral practice. Regular repertoire rehearsals complement the orchestra's numerous concerts.
