The first edition of the concert series HW25C_ by the ensemble hand werk deals with Zen Buddhism and spirituality. Instrumental improvisation meets notated chamber music.
The guest is Darius Heid, pianist and composer in the genre of "modern creative" and himself an active Zen practitioner. His work is influenced by meditation: his inner peace and self-awareness can be heard in his art. Introspective, he gradually extracts sounds from this inner space.
The notated compositions also revolve around aspects of spirituality: Helena Canovas performatively stages the conscious process of reading in "four readers", Morton Feldman asks through contemplative moments and radical lengths: "Why Patterns?", and Saad Haddad skillfully peels unheard harmonies like shadow chords from Bach's chorale of the same name in "Selig Licht".
