A love story, a melodrama, two bodies: in "The Taste of Rust and Bone", the destitute Ali tries to face the challenges of life with his rough physique and at the same time be a father to his five-year-old son Sam. At his new job as a bouncer, he meets Stephanie, who trains killer whales in a marine theme park. After a serious accident, Stephanie has to find a new approach to life. Ali's direct physicality helps her, but Ali is also changed by Stephanie's tenacious resilience.
"The Taste of Rust and Bone" premiered to much acclaim in competition at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and won four French César awards in 2013, including one for Juliette Welfling's editing. For our guest Anne Jünemann, the film is exemplary of the power and elegance that cinema can have: "Sometimes razor-sharp and sudden, then again soft and calm, the editing reflects the physical and emotional experiences of the characters. Distanced, unpredictable and powerful."
Anne Jünemann was born in Rostock. Her career as a film editor began at a Munich post-production company. From 2007 to 2014, she studied editing at the Babelsberg Film University. Since graduating, she has edited both documentaries and feature films. Several of her works have premiered at the Berlinale (including "Die Adern der Welt") and the Sundance Film Festival ("Eternal You"). At the German Camera Award this year, she was honored with the award for Best Editing / Fiction Cinema for her work on "Leere Netze". She is currently also nominated for the NRW Edimotion Editing Award for this film.
