In the name of freedom - Taras Shevchenko
В iм`я свободи-Тарас Шевченко
A portrait of the Ukrainian national poet
By Mark Zak
Premiere: September 21, 2024
Directed by Alexander Olbrich | Read and narrated by Mark Zak | Music and vocals by Svitlana Kavka
Can you throw the most famous Ukrainian poet, Sahra Wagenknecht, the Virgin Mary and soccer into the same pot and conjure up a good, spicy dish? Mark Zak manages to do just that. Together with singer and bandura player Svitlana Kavka and directed by Alexander Olbrich, the actor, who is well-known from film and television, combines homage to the artist, who was born a serf in 1814, with political satire and stand-up comedy. Sometimes lyrical and thoughtful, sometimes with biting humor, but always playful and highly musical.
The songs - all poems by T. Shevchenko - are in Ukrainian for this evening, the rest is in German.
A co-production with Theater der Keller and with the kind support of Blau-Gelbes Kreuz e.V. and Lew Kopelew Forum e.V.
