ARTISTS Flex Ensemble
This salon concert shows the development of the compositional language for piano quartet as well as the stylistic changes in two French composers of the late 19th and early 21st century: Gabriel Fauré and Gérard Pesson.
Our first encounter with the music of Gérard Pesson was an important milestone for us as an ensemble. From the very beginning, we were enthusiastic about Pesson's very personal approach to reinterpreting the works of Romantic composers and were very pleased and honored that he wanted to write a new piano quartet for our Flex Ensemble, which can also be understood as an homage to the second piano quartet by Gabriel Fauré.
Fauré is an inspiring composer for both Pesson and Flex, and his two piano quartets reflect important stylistic developments in his career. 2024 marks the centenary of Fauré's death. The perfect time for us to juxtapose his piano quartets with two piano quartets by Pesson, rounded off with text, conversation and French wine.
With the imPULS SalonConcerts, the Flex Ensemble presents three new, excitingly innovative concert programs as a modern version of the 19th century salon concert: the work of a composer or its new arrangement for piano quartet is the repertoire that can be experienced in an intimate setting in this concert series. Rounded off by new and old works, conversations, literature, letters or poetry, the Flex Ensemble contextualizes and connects the music in order to discover and enjoy its sound together from the inside out. The SalonConcerts thus give the audience a completely different and fresh perspective on "well-known" works and bring out details never heard before to make chamber music hearts beat faster.
