In the 1970s, Iranian Zahra studies medicine at the University of Bucharest. There she forms a deep friendship with her fellow student Maria. When the Iranian revolution overthrew the Shah in 1979, Zahra returned to her country in the hope of political change. She and Maria wrote letters to each other for decades.
