Istanbul

In the organizer's words:

What if the economic miracle had not happened in Germany, but in Turkey? If 825,383 men and women had not come to Germany from Turkey in 1961, but vice versa? Klaus comes to Istanbul as a guest worker, leaving his wife Luise and daughter behind in Ingolstadt. He doesn't speak Turkish, but the translator İsmet helps him to find his way around. Even the search for coffee becomes a challenge in everyday life, but Ela, who lives in the same neighborhood, becomes a ray of hope. When Luise arrives in Istanbul, everything changes and home is suddenly a word that is no longer as clear-cut as it seemed.

The songs for this evening are by Sezen Aksu, the queen of Turkish pop. She landed her first number one hit in Turkey in 1976. She writes, composes and sings her songs herself, but also writes for other artists. She is probably best known to German audiences for the songs she wrote for the singer Tarkan: "Şımarık" and "Şıkıdım". The Austrian-Turkish actress, dramaturge and director Aslı Kışlal was born in Ankara and has lived in Vienna since 1990. In 2004, she founded the art and culture association daskunst in Vienna, of which she has been the artistic director ever since. In 2014, she received the "Mia Award" in the art and culture category for her work.
