ITFS Animation Special: Das kostbarste aller Güter

In the organizer's words:

During the Second World War, a French family is deported to Auschwitz. On the train to the extermination camp, the father throws his baby out of the window in utter despair. The screaming girl is found by the wife of a woodcutter who is collecting wood in the forest during a snowstorm. She thinks it is a gift from God and takes it in. Her husband soon takes the child, whom his wife calls an "angel", into his heart. In the years that follow, the baby, this "most precious of all goods", will bring out the worst and the best in people's hearts.

The film is based on the young adult book by Jean-Claude Grumberg. It is the first animated film by director and Oscar winner Michel Hazanavicius (THE ARTIST) and screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, among others.

The Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film will be showing the film before its German release on March 6 as part of the nationwide cinema initiative "January 27 - 80 Years of the Liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau" in cooperation with the Haus des Dokumentarfilms and the Haus der Geschichte Baden-Württemberg.
