Reading and discussion with René Aguigah,
Moderation: Gabriel Schimmeroth
James Baldwin, one of the most important writers of the 20th century, would have been 100 years old this year. Baldwin, a black and gay author, created a unique body of work in a racist and homophobic society that inspired generations of activists. René Aguigah, an acknowledged Baldwin expert, presents his new book about Baldwin's life and work and how they relate to the present day. The conversation with René Aguigah will focus on the connection between being an artist and activism, the tension between literature and politics, Baldwin's advocacy for the marginalized and his universalist convictions.
