Jana Karšaiová liest aus ihrem Roman "Samtene Scheidung"

On September 30, Jana Karšaiová will present her latest novel Velvet Divorce, which was among the twelve finalists for the Premio Strega 2022 literary prize. The novel was also awarded the Premio John Fante Opera Prima Cinema 2023.

The book tells the story of Katarína, who returns to Bratislava from Prague to spend Christmas with her family. Not only do the old disagreements with her mother await her there, but she is also forced to justify the absence of her husband Eugen. Velvet Divorce tells of betrayal, unacknowledged longings and fractures that have to be reassembled in order to find healing. The protagonist of the novel, as well as the country in which she was born, seem to be searching for themselves after the loss of the past.
