JAZZ IM MALKASTEN

On October 15, 2024, there will be a special concert highlight in the theater hall of the Künstlerverein Malkasten when the well-known greats of the free jazz scene, WOLFGANG SCHMIDTKE TRIO, GUNDA GOTTSCHALK + UTE VÖLKER and TOXODON , perform at "Jazz im Malkasten" .

The "Wolfgang Schmidtke Trio" will kick things off. The composer and saxophonist Wolfgang Schmidtke, who has worked with Markus Stockhausen, Lee Konitz, Steve Lacy and Peter Brötzmann and founded the 15-piece ensemble "Wolfgang Schmidtke Orchester" alongside solo projects, will be accompanied by Harro Eller on bass and Peter Weiß on drums: a perfect introduction to a unique sound experience.

Violonist Gunda Gottschalk and accordionist Ute Völker will then perform. Both musicians specialize in free improvised music and explore the possibilities of their respective instruments. Together they create unique soundscapes in which space and time melt away and combine to create new and surprising acoustic forms.

"Toxodon" is the name of the trio formed by Salome Amend, Simon Camatta and Raissa Mehner, in which they work together between free jazz, groove and noise. At Künstlerverein Malkasten, they will play a set with vibraphone (Amend), drums (Camatta) and electric guitar (Mehner) and offer the audience jazz "as its best".
