Jazzhaus Jugendorchester meets Big Bands

With the founding of the Jazzhaus Big Band in 2023, the Jazzhaus Freiburg set another milestone in its history. The big band, which largely emerged from the JJO, impresses under the direction of Bernhard G. Hofmann with a repertoire of classic big band sound and modern arrangements.

The LENS of the Musikschule Jazz Basel is a unique large ensemble project that inspires anew every year. Talented young musicians work on pieces composed and arranged by themselves as well as by lecturers from the music school. The project is closely linked to the music school's talent development program and Precollege program and offers young musicians a platform for development and exchange. The ensemble is led by the experienced musician Jonas Winterhalter.

For over 30 years, the Jazzhaus Jugendorchester (JJO), under the direction of Herbert Schiffels, has been delighting audiences with its enthusiasm and energy. Originally founded as the Freiburg School Jazz Orchestra, the JJO focuses on having fun making music together and discovering jazz music. Regular workshops and orchestra trips abroad promote the exchange and musical development of young musicians. The JJO has been under the direction of Will Bartlett since 2021.
