It all began in a branch of the American seafood chain Red Lobster and has now taken Joseph Bertolino and Braedan Lugue, aka JoeyValence& Brae, to stages that are getting bigger and bigger. The US rap duo met while studying at Pennsylvania State University and quickly realized that making music is much more fun than cramming. And the fun part can be taken quite literally, as their debut single "Crank It Up" (2021) was a pure ode to the joy of music and the company of their best buddies. With the hairstyles of the early Offspring, the jumping joy of the Beastie Boys, the DIY urge of punk rock and their very own lyrical twist, Joey Valence & Brae hit the nerve of a time when good 90s updates are in high demand anyway. Last year's debut album "Punk Tactics" easily lived up to the high expectations. The single "Hooligang" with its house-of-pain vibes got fans jumping just as much as the title track, which is close to 100 million streams on Spotify alone. Joey Valence & Brae also impressed live on their own tours or as the support act for Limp Bizkit, where they showed the rather middle-aged audience with their already aching knees how today's kids think crossover.

The follow-up "No Hands" will be released on June 7 and is also a lot of fun. Even the lead single "The Baddest" is a jump-along rap anthem that you can't get out of your head. It gets even better with "Packapunch", for which they were able to win over rapper Danny Brown. Nevertheless, Joey Valence & Brae are not out of touch. They recently said in their interview that they are still two good-humored dudes who make music in their home studio. "The most fun is when we sit in our rooms and laugh our asses off together. And we do the exact same thing on stage - we're really just trying to make each other laugh and be silly in front of a crowd - whether that's five people or 5000 people. We're still having the time of our lives." You can watch them do just that at their three German shows in November.
