JOOKLO, the free funk project of the Moers Festival's "improviser in residence 2024" Virginia Genta (tenor, soprano saxophone) opens the 2025 concert series at the Parzelle im Depot. As the JOOKLO-XXL formation, the band rocked the "visual sound outdoor festival" in the courtyard of the Depot cultural venue in summer and got the enthusiastic audience dancing. Don't miss the opportunity to see JOOKLO live in Dortmund. The Italian musicians leave the region and move on into the world.

Improvisations give free rein to both groove and wild rage, taking the form of songs or psychedelic clouds of abstraction from moment to moment.
Since 2004, the Jooklo Duo (Virginia Genta on reeds, flute, piano and drums and David Vanzan on drums) have been wowing the world with hundreds of performances and iconic records. They spread their powerful and uniquely vibrant sound, deeply rooted in the free jazz avant-garde, but also heavily influenced by traditional folk music while being open to extreme sound experimentation.
Over the years, the constant search for new and challenging combinations has led Genta and Vanzan to form a variety of ensembles and collaborate with artists such as Bill Nace, Chris Corsano, Thurston Moore, Dror Feiler, Dylan Nyoukis, Hartmut Geerken, Stanley J. Zappa, Makoto Kawabata, Mette Rasmussen and many others. The duo has also collaborated with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company alongside John Paul Jones and Takehisa Kosugi, performed for "Nearly Ninety" in major theaters in Madrid and London, and has long been a favorite of emblematic personalities such as Henry Rollins, WFMU Radio, Wire, etc..."
