Peter Uka: Painting as Homemaking

On November 5, we welcome artist Peter Uka (*1975 in Benue, Nigeria) to reflect on the medium of painting as a means of storytelling and revitalization. Characterized by childhood memories, his almost life-size paintings appear like visual diaries of Black life in Nigeria. Characterized by pride and nostalgia, his figurative scenes capture local everyday life, the social developments of the 1970s and the influences of a globalized worldin vibrant colors .

Peter Uka lives in Cologne and is a graduate of the Düsseldorf Art Academy. His artwork "Peace Invocation" (2023) was recently added to the collection and currently shares a room with works by Pablo Picasso and Fernand Léger at K20.
