Every four years since 1989, the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, in cooperation with the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (German National Academic Foundation), has presented an exhibition of the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Scholarship, which was established in 1975. Founded by Schmidt-Rottluff, the foundation awards two-year postgraduate scholarships for outstanding artistic achievements. In the Kunsthalle, the last two years of the scholarship present the works they created during the scholarship period.
