KINDER, KINDER ! ZWISCHEN REPRÄSENTATION UND WIRKLICHKEIT

There is hardly any other topic that reflects the values and norms of a society and its changes as clearly as depictions of children. At the same time, these images bear witness to the appreciation of children and the changing understanding of what it means to be a child over the centuries. The exhibition Children, Children! Between Representation and Reality is dedicated to the depiction of children in images from the 16th to the 21st century. In various chapters, it approaches the subject from different perspectives and draws on photographs and sculptures as well as paintings.

The subject of being a child is still one of the most popular pictorial themes in the visual arts today: Trying things out, pushing the boundaries, drawing, playing and being together are characteristic of the most important phase of a person's life.
