The remains of a completely mangled corpse wash up on Amity beach. The new police chief Brody soon suspects a shark attack, but the town council refuses to close the beaches. Meanwhile, the great white shark continues to kill and Mayor Vaughn reacts far too late. He hires shark catcher Quint, who sets off with Brody and marine biologist Matt Hooper to kill the beast.
